AN ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING SCOLIOSIS

Over the previous five years, hundreds of our scoliosis patients have had excellent results with the Cheneau-Gensingen brace, and we want to continue to improve the Cheneau brace. Our scoliosis experts have been working on this for some years, and our partnership with Scoliosis SOS reinforces our new treatment pathway, which will go into effect on Tuesday, December 21st, 2021.

In 1979, Dr. Jaques Cheneau created his first brace. The three-dimensional correction of the spine in the coronal (front), transverse (rotational), and sagittal (side) planes is the focus of his brace design, which understands that scoliosis is a three-dimensional disorder. Stabilization is the minimal goal for brace wearers, but LOC has seen major spinal adjustments firsthand in our patients.

Adolescents and juveniles, in particular.

Cheneau bracing has been associated with the Schroth scoliosis idea since its inception. Dr Cheneau visited Katherina Schroth and Christa Lehnert-Schroth at their renowned clinic in Germany. He immediately understood the efficacy of the Schroth breathing concept and incorporated this into his brace designs using the augmented Lehnert-Schroth curve-pattern classifications, which for decades have been the basis for Schroth scoliosis treatment.
Today there are several Cheneau derivatives and LOC has made some small, but noticeable, adjustments to its design, primarily to improve comfort for the patient – compliance to the prescribed wearing regime is very important for successful treatment outcomes and therefore comfort is of paramount importance. Given the collective experience in fitting and fine-tuning hundreds of Cheneau-Gensingen braces, In January 2022, our team of Schroth certified doctors and our in-house production team are excited to introduce this new advancement.

One of the major benefits of bringing the manufacturing of our scoliosis braces in-house is that our scoliosis specialists will have direct control over the modelling of each bespoke brace, and we will be able to significantly reduce the time between assessment and brace fitting with the help of our experienced team of manufacturing engineers.

Scoliosis SOS, which was formed in 2006 by clinic founder Erika Maude after her own experiences with scoliosis, has partnered with us to provide professional physiotherapy to supplement our conservative, non-surgical bracing treatment for Scoliosis.

Initially, Scoliosis SOS treated patients simply with the Schroth method, but it was discovered that there were aspects of postural correction that the approach could not adequately address on its own. They have developed the ScolioGold approach, which recognises that no single method works best for everyone, by combining numerous aspects from many schools of scoliosis specialised physiotherapy exercise therapies. The Schroth approach is still an important aspect of their successful scoliosis therapy, but it is now supplemented with other well-known therapeutic techniques. The team of physiotherapists at Scoliosis SOS also has a number of years of experience combining their therapy with bracing with the Cheneau-Gensingen brace. It is that combined scoliosis treatment that is recognised as the most effective at reducing the need for surgical intervention.
