CONDITIONS OF FEMALE PECTUS

Men make up the majority of pectus patients we treat in our clinics, but that doesn’t mean women aren’t affected.
Our non-surgical treatment for pectus carinatum and pectus excavatum involves wearing a customized brace or orthosis called a ‘Dynamic Chest Compressor,’ along with a daily workout routine. Treating ladies with pectus is more difficult because we have a smaller surface in which to apply the necessary pressure from the brace. With the correct treatment regimen, however, it is still possible to obtain very positive results.

We also know from anecdotal evidence that women are more hesitant to discuss their pectus condition with others. This is why we believe young women like Ellie Jane (watch her video here) are so important in raising awareness about the disease.

“The goal is to get to a clinic like Our Clinic as soon as possible,” explains Sam Walmsley, an orthopedist at Our Clinic. “There’s no need to feel embarrassed; we deal with pectus on a daily basis.” And don’t assume there’s nothing you can do because it’s more difficult to treat or you’ve waited a long time. Come chat to us about your pectus, and we’ll do everything we can to help you improve it.”
